Diabetes & Endocrinology center
Endocrinological diseases involve abnormalities of the thyroid, adrenal glands, pituitary gland, as well as diabetes, and osteoporosis amongst others.

Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that causes too much glucose in the blood which can lead to serious health problems. It is now widely accepted that good diabetic control combined with good blood pressure and lipid control has a vital role in reducing the long term consequences of being diabetic.
The Diabetes Center at Chaophya Hospital has one singular mission to bring lasting improvements in quality of life to diabetic patients. This common goal unites the clinical and educational arms of the Diabetes Center into a comprehensive program that is unique amongst diabetes facilities.

1. “Total Diabetes care” at the Diabetes center  was set to ensure that our patients receive standard and excellent multidisciplinary diabetic care, and to help them integrate optimal diabetic management into their everyday lives .
Because people with diabetes have to see a range of health specialists, we strive to remove all the barriers which may make it hard for the patients to take care of their conditions.
The Diabetes Center at Chaophya Hospital consists of endocrinologists specializing in adult and childhood diabetes, as well as nutritionists, nurse educators, and exercise physiologists. Furthermore, we provide access to a wide range of other consultants including surgeons, ophthalmologists, cardiologists, nephrologists, neurologists, and podiatrists.

2. Prevention of short-term and long-term diabetic complication is the utmost importance in caring of people with diabetes.
Short-term complications are caused mainly by acute imbalance of the sugar level. On the contrary, long-term complications of diabetes which involve many organs, such as eyes, kidneys, heart, and brain develop gradually and can be disabling or even life-threatening.
It is because of these risks that people with diabetes need regular follow-up and monitoring, both by themselves and by the doctors and nurses looking after them.
The Diabetes Center at Chaophya Hospital also provide quick laboratory assessment that comprises fasting blood sugar, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C), cholesterol level, triglyceride level, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, uric acid, and urinary analysis. These parameters  will guide the patients and care teams to optimize control of cardiovascular risks such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

3. To assess the peripheral vascular disease (PAD) in patients with diabetes, we use an ABI (ankle-brachial pressure index) which is a standard, reproducible, and reasonably accurate, noninvasive measurement for the detection of PAD and the determination of disease severity. The ABI is the ratio of the blood pressure in the lower legs to the blood pressure in the arms. Compared to the arm, lower blood pressure in the leg indicates blocked arteries (PAD).

4. Early detection and management of prediabetes and diabetes can delay diabetic complications.
Prediabetes is diagnosed when the blood sugar level is higher than normal blood glucose levels but not reaches diabetic levels.  People with prediabetes are likely to develop diabetes and may already be experiencing the adverse health effects of this serious condition. People with prediabetes have a 1.5-fold increased risk of cardiovascular disease compared to people with normal blood glucose. We now know that people with prediabetes can delay or prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes through lifestyle changes.
There are three different tests used to determine whether you have pre-diabetes : the fasting blood sugar test, the oral glucose tolerance test, and HbA1C.

5. Cooperation with obstetricians to ensure that pregnant women who have gestational diabetes acquire optimal integrative antenatal and diabetic care.
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a condition characterized by high blood sugar levels that are discovered during pregnancy. Most women who have GDM deliver healthy babies. However, GDM that's not carefully managed can lead to uncontrolledly high blood sugar levels and cause problems for mothers and babies, including an increased likelihood of needing delivery by C-section.

The Diabetic center at Chaophya hospital  works with the Obstetric Center to provide optimal integrative antenatal and diabetic care to assure the well-being of mothers and babies.
